In 2021, it was a hundred years since the first publication of the work that largely defined the development of European and world philosophy of the 20th century — Ludwig Wittgenstein's (1889–1951) “Logical-Philosophical Treatise.”
However, with the publication of the “Treatise,”...
the eccentric young scholar from Vienna, Ludwig Wittgenstein, did not gain worldwide fame; in fact, his ideas spread much later. By the second half of the 20th century, a genuine cult began to form around Wittgenstein's work, the study of his text became part of university programs in contemporary philosophy, and familiarity with it became obligatory for a thinking person. The “Treatise” overshadowed Wittgenstein's later works, published posthumously, successfully surpassed the century mark of its cultural existence, and judging by the number of reissues in various languages, it is destined for the fate of an indisputable and eternally relevant classic.
This edition presents readers with a new annotated translation of the treatise, dedicated to the centenary of Wittgenstein's epoch-making work. For the first time, when publishing the “Treatise” in Russian, the author's structure is presented not linearly, but as a logical tree, as envisioned by the author.
The Appendix offers the reader a selection of excerpts from the works of several authors who belong to the precursors of modern cognitivism.
